Cottesloe Nature Discovery Space

Curtin Avenue, Vlamingh Memorial, Cottesloe

See route

This small nature discovery space is part of Cottesloe Coastcare’s restoration project near Vlamingh Memorial.

Designed to give children (and adults) the chance to meander through the space, this play space makes use of the native landscape and natural playground elements to encourage passive and creative active play.

Children can enjoy making cubbies, climbing on the baby humpback climber and playing on the logs in the dry creek swale.

Other key features include: a fairy bridge, rocks and balancing ground logs, and a large snake head on an old wharf rope.

There is also a small, shaded area with some log seating near the Fairy bridge.

Carved creatures on the logs are fun to find. Be sure to look for the beautiful weedy seadragon log carving!

Limestone rhizolith rock formations are full of shells and there are plenty of gum nuts and banksia cones to discover.

There is also a coffee spot nearby. Wooden Wagon coffee caravan is located in carpark No 1, off Curtin Avenue, approximately 400m south. Do check their hours on Facebook before heading there. They close in the winter months.

Accessibility

Wheelchair access is possible on a crushed limestone path entering from the cement dual use path, to two parts of the site. The southern most entry point takes the visitor to the edge of the shaded seating area.

The nearest car park is on the south side of Vlamingh memorial, opposite Montessori School. A footpath follows the edge of Curtin Avenue and runs to the Nature Play Space.
